Less Is More For Times Union Center

ALBANY, NY (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — It has been a good year for the SMG-managed Times Union Center, which in 2012 reported a profit increase of 64% over the previous year.

In 2012, 121 events were held at the Times Union Center, with attendance numbers reaching 457,000. In comparison, there were 130 events in 2011, which resulted in a total attendance just short of 400,000.

Concerts staged at the Times-Union Center include Rascal Flatts, Bruce Springsteen, Sugarland, Roger Waters, Aerosmith, Kevin Hart, Carrie Underwood, the WGNA Country Festival featuring Eric Church, Trans Siberian Orchestra and an electric dance music event known as Pretty Lights. Non-musical shows included prosperity preacher Joel Osteen, Cirque Du Soleil, The Harlem Globetrotters, Disney On Ice and other shows.

In addition, the venue has implemented cost-savings measures such as a 4-day, ten hour work week for employees, letting them shut down air conditioning through the weekend, which helped to save more than $100,000 in 2012. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
