Lieberberg Turns Down Award At German LEAs

FRANKFURT, Germany (VIP NEWS) — The PRG LEA German Live Entertainment Awards took place on April 5th in Frankfurt Festival Hall where most of the German Live Music Industry was gathered to the show.

The Jury Prize at the PRG LEA award show went to the Marek Lieberberg concert agency, the number one German event organizer. In doing so the jury recognized last year’s expansion of the security concept for Rock am Ring, Germany’s biggest open air festival, setting a standard for professional and responsible event organization in Germany.

Marek Lieberberg also garnered the LEA for Lifetime Achievement. According to the jury, Lieberberg “has done more to shape the German concert organization landscape than any other individual after Fritz Rau.“ The founder of the Rock am Ring and Rock im Park events and organizer of Live 8 has also arranged tours by countless top artists including Herbert Grönemeyer, Depeche Mode, Xavier Naidoo, U2, Celine Dion and Yussuf Islam.

The audience in the Festhalle was disappointed and surprised by Lieberberg‘s decision not to accept both prizes. Jens Michow, President of the German Promoters' Association and producer of the PRG LEA, said of the prize-winner’s absence: “The jury has conferred on Mr Lieberberg and his agency the two most prestigious awards of the ceremony and in doing so sought to recognize not only the fact that
Mr Lieberberg is the organizer of Germany’s most prestigious music festival and, of course, the country’s most important tour organizer, but also that the 65-year-old has now been at the top of his field for over 25 years and was ranked the world’s third most important tour organizer in 2010.

The LEA Committee regrets Mr Lieberberg’s rejection of the award but respects his decision and has no further comment to make.“
