Liverpool Airport To Bear John Lennon's Name

Liverpool's airport is being renamed after one of its own — Beatle John Lennon, becoming England's first airport to be named after an individual.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport will go into effect next year. Its new logo will be of a self-portrait of Lennon and the line "above us only sky", taken from his chestnut, "Imagine."

"As a gateway to the region this will be seen by millions of passengers and is a fitting tribute to the memory of my late husband, said Yoko Ono, the singer's widow."

Airport Chairman Robert Hough, noted: "Throughout the world John Lennon is synonymous with Liverpool. He is an integral part of Merseyside's heritage and the new name places the airport firmly on the international map."
