NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — Goth rocker Marilyn Manson disclosed for the first time his experience with a stage prop malfunction that left him hospitalized with a leg injury.
The singer was crushed when a giant prop gun collapsed on him after he appeared to try to climb on it during a concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York on 30 September.
“I only recently watched the video of it,” Manson told Yahoo News in a recent interview. “I can see how it could look terrifying. It was terrifying for me, because the truss was not secured properly.”
Manson also disputes the notion that he was trying to climb on the prop, noting that instead, he was attempting to right it as it was tipping over.
“I wasn’t trying to climb it,” he told Yahoo News. “It started to fall and I tried to push back and I didn’t get out the way in time. I’m not sure what I hit my head on, but it did fall onto my leg and break the fibula in two places. The pain was excruciating.”
Manson said that the accident left him with a metal plate with ten screws holding it to the bone, as well as another screw through his ankle bone. Still, Manson said he feels lucky his injuries weren't more serious.
“It definitely could have crushed my skull and my ribs,” Manson says. “I have some minor bruising in that area, but it took six guys to pull it off of me. It was like wrestling a giant iron monster.”
