NASHVILLE, TN (CelebrityAccess) — Legendary country music singer-songwriter Mel Tillis is in the hospital recovering after undergoing colon surgery, but is on the mend, according to his rep.
Concerns about Tillis' health began last week after entertainer Tony Orlando tweeted that singer Johnny Lee had "informed us that our friend Mel Tillis is in critical condition….please pray." However, Tillis' publicist has since confirmed to Rolling Stone that while Tillis was recovering from surgery, he was not in critical condition.
Tillis had been scheduled to take part in the Country Music Cruise, which sailed on January 16th, but organizers for the event have added Bobby Bare to the lineup as a replacement for Tillis.
Tillis is best known for his hits such as "Coca-Cola Cowboy," "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town," and "Detroit City." – Staff Writers
