MINNEAPOLIS (CelebrityAccess) — Heavy metal rockers Metallica announced that they will be the headliners for the inaugural rock concert at Minneapolis’ U.S. Bank Stadium, the new home of the Minnesota Vikings, on Saturday, August 20th as part of the opening weekend festivities.
Avenged Sevenfold will provide direct support, marking one of only a few shows the hard rock band will play in the United States this year, while rockabilly-metal fusion act Volbeat will open the show.
“We had such an amazing time playing in our hometown stadium the night before the Super Bowl that when asked we couldn’t say ‘no’ to another chance to be part of a very special weekend,” said Metallica’s Lars Ulrich.
The 65,400 seat stadium, managed by SMG is set to open summer 2016 and has been chosen as the site of Super Bowl LII (2018) and the NCAA Men’s Final Four in 2019.
