MIDEM 2006 To Focus On Live Music Sector

(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Celebrating its 40th anniversary, MIDEM 2006, the world's music market, will once again highlight the importance of the live music sector. Special events include a dedicated conference forum and a complete live concert program, which will span five days, January 22-26 in Cannes, France.

For the second consecutive year, the Live Music Network will bring together key professionals from the live music sector for a series of discussions. Two panels, on January 23 in the Palais de Festivals, will focus on world-wide touring and the exposure of artists and repertoire within the major world markets. The day will kick-off with two exceptional keynotes: Harvey Goldsmith, managing director of Harvey Goldsmith Productions Ltd (UK), and Kevin Wall, CEO of Network Live and executive TV producer for Live 8 (USA).

Last January, MIDEM brought together a talented and varied pool of performers, including Chuck D, Louie Vega, Skin, Seu Jorge, Grand National, The Pharcyde, Nouvelle Vaque, TTC, Frankie Knuckles, Matt Haimovitz, Gidon Kremer (Kremerata Baltica), Sara Lazarus Quartet, André Ceccarelli, Jordi Savall, Hilary Kahn, Nigel Kennedy, Felicity Lott.

Each year MIDEM stages approximately 80 concerts in 15 venues throughout Cannes. The concerts feature more than 400 performing artists and cover a wide range of music genres from pop, rock, hip-hop, electronic music, world music, jazz and classical. They are open to delegates and over 10,000 free seats are offered to the general public. — Bob Grossweiner and Jane Cohen
