The troubled $1.2 million Millennium Dome in southeast London is entertaining the idea of staging concerts and sporting events beginning October as a way of recouping some of its costly maintenance and security costs, reports the London Times. Since it closed last year, its maintenance bill has been about $10.6 million.
"The Dome will become available for interim, one-off or periodic use from October onwards," said a spokeswoman for the Department for Transport, Local Government and the Regions.
Both boxing promoter Frank Maloney and music promoter Bob Angus, are reportedly interested in staging events at the 10,000 capacity venue.
