PLAYA DEL CARMEN, MEXICO (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The MTV Video Music Awards Latin America has been cancelled this year. The awards show, spoiled by Hurricane Wilma, was originally scheduled to take place on Oct. 20, and then it was moved up a day to Oct. 19 and then finally postponed.
Organizers decided they would not be able to stage the awards as planned before the end of the year. Instead, winners of the 2005 VMALA awards will be announced during programming that will air in December.
This year's VMALA show was set to take place in Playa del Carmen in the Mexican Caribbean Peninsula and would have marked the first time it moved from its home in Miami. The Mexican Caribbean still remains a possibility for the 2006 show.
