International music production association NAMM, through its teen initiative themusicedge.com, has partnered with the North American Taste of Chaos Tour. Heavy rockers the Deftones and Thrice will co-headline this year's 45-city event, kicking off February 16 in San Diego and wrapping up in mid-April. Also on the bill are Story of the Year, Atreyu, Thursday, As I Lay Dying, Dredg, Silverstein and Funeral For A Friend.
Kevin Lyman, creator of the Vans Warped Tour, started Taste of Chaos in 2005 to give Warped Tour fans exposure to some of their favorite young bands for under $30 during the winter months. It currently reaches more than 260,000 teens and young adults in the United States; its international tour has reached as many as 110,000 fans in Australia, Canada, Japan, Germany and the UK.
Participating NAMM members include: Zildjian, Pearl, Ernie Ball, Ayott Drums, Drum Workshop, Truth Drums and Orange County Drum and Percussion. Each member company is taking part in a promotion that will have an instrument from each band member on the Taste of Chaos main stage donated to Hard Rock Café's nationwide for display. — Jane Cohen and Bob Grossweiner
