Nedfest Founder 'Michigan' Mike Torpie Found Dead

NEDERLAND, CO (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Michael "Michigan Mike" Torpie, founder of Nedfest, a three-day jamband/bluegrass music and arts festival has reportedly been found dead.

According to Boulder newspaper The Daily Camera, friends reported that Torpie was found dead in a truck parked in front of a local grocery store on Nov. 24th. Police have yet to positively identify Torpie, pending an autopsy and said that they are still investigating the incident but do not suspect foul play.

Torpie was best known for organizing Nedfest, which he started in his backyard in 1996. The event has since grown to a 3-day affair that attracts thousands of music fans every summer to the Jeff Guercio Memorial Baseball Park.

In addition to his work as a promoter, Torpie was a notable figure in local politics and a former member of the town's Board of Trustees. Torpie was instrumental in the push to decriminalize marijuana in the town, only the second town in the U.S. to do so. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
