Nevada State Senate Nixes Stadium Bill

LAS VEGAS, NV (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The Nevada State Senate failed to pass a bill to support the development of one of three proposed stadium projects.

The bill, SB501 would have committed public funding to the creation of "facility districts" that would have supported the construction of one of three different proposed stadiums in Las Vegas. One near the Mandalay Bay Casino, another in downtown Las Vegas and a third that would have been located at the University of Nevada – Las Vegas campus.

According to the Las Vegas Journal-Review, the bill failed to draw enough support in the Assembly Taxation Committee, led by Assemblywoman Marilyn Kirkpatrick, D-North Las Vegas, despite heavy lobbying.

While the failure of the bill doesn't completely put the kibosh on stadium plans, it presents new challenges to hopeful builders.

"I wouldn't just foreclose the possibility but I think that projects of this magnitude need this type of legislation," Nevada System of Higher Education Chancellor Dan Klaich told the Journal-Review. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
