Nick Gatfield Exits Sony Music UK

LONDON (VIP-NEWS) — Sony Music U.K. CEO and chairman Nick Gatfield has reportedly left the company.

Gatfield, a former musician, has held senior executive roles for Universal and EMI and has a top pedigree in A&R. He took the top job at Sony Music’s U.K. company in the last few months of 2011.

Prior to joining Sony, Gatfield worked as EMI Music president of new music for North America and president of Universal Island Records. Gatfield signed Radiohead to EMI, and has worked closely with the likes of Universal artists Keane, Sugababes, and the late Amy Winehouse. He also once played in Dexy`s Midnight Runners, the British band that had a global hit in the early `80s with “Come On Eileen”.

In a statement issued at the time of his arrival, Gatfield’s then boss Doug Morris, Sony Music Entertainment CEO, described the recruit as "an accomplished music executive with a successful A&R background, strong senior management experience, and a special understanding of the artist community."

Gatfield’s efforts at Sony Music U.K. — the company which signed and delivered One Direction — were recognized with his appearance in Billboard’s International Power Players list.

A replacement for Gatfield has been decided by Sony management, but has yet to be announced, according to Music Week. The music trade publication quotes a company spokesperson who describes Gatfield’s departure as “amicable.”
