Performing Arts Center Manager Rodney Smith Dead At 58

SAN ANTONIO, TX (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Rodney J. Smith, the managing director of the Bexar County Performing Arts Center Foundation and the man leading the $195 million restoration of the Municipal Auditorium, died at his home on Saturday, the victim of an apparent heart attack. He was 58.

According to the San Antonio Express-News, Smith's colleagues have vowed to keep moving forward with the project, which is set to break ground in May with an expected completion date of 2014.

Smith, who was hired to oversee the project in 2009, had formerly been the manager of the Denver Performing Arts Complex for many years and later led the University of Denver's events division.

"Rodney was always the kind of guy who liked to eat, drink and be merry," Paul Beard, managing director of the Smith Center in Las Vegas and a friend of Smith told the San Antonio Express-News. "All of us enjoyed that facet of Rodney's personality."

Smith was survived by his wife, Donna Smith, their son, Nicholas, daughter Chelsea and a grandson Kieran. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
