Philadelphia's Boyd Theater To Get CCC Makeover

(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) – The 77-year-old Boyd Theater in Philadelphia will soon be getting a complete makeover thanks to new owner, Clear Channel Communications. The renovations are planned at $35 million, to repair the cracking ceilings and aged interior. The classic art deco style theater will reopen its doors in 2006, with plans to serve the city with concerts, musical theater, films and other stage events.

Preservationists feared that the building would be torn down after closing its doors in 2002. The owners at the time, The Goldenberg Group, felt that they were losing money. After failing to garner government subsidies, the theater was sold to Clear Channel Communications, with plans of restoring the landmark with their own funds.

Clear Channel Communications plans to book the 2,400-seat theater approximately 240 days per year when it reopens. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
