Police Consider Festival Challenge

(VIP) — West Yorkshire Police say they have still not decided whether to launch a legal challenge to this year's Leeds Festival.

A police spokeswoman said lawyers are still being consulted about whether there are grounds for a judicial review.

Last month, a Leeds City Council licensing panel gave permission to the organisers, Mean Fiddler, to hold the festival at Bramham Park near Wetherby.

This was despite strong opposition from the police who fear a repeat of the violence which occurred at last year's festival at Temple Newsam in Leeds.

Opposition to using Bramham Park has also come from some residents of nearby Bramham and Thorner.

They fear the villages will be swamped by music fans trying to get to the three day event at the end of August.

The boss of Mean Fiddler, Melvin Benn, has already said he will resist any legal move to stop the festival.
