Promoter Defends No Translator Decision At 1D Concert

BELFAST, Ireland (CelebrityAccess) — A pair of deaf fans were left a little disappointed after the show's promoter refused to provide a sign language interpreter during the band's show at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast.

The fans, Sara and Lisa Kelly, approached the venue about hearing help but were redirected to the show's promoter Aiken Promotions who declined to provide a translator but said they would try to provide a set list and lyrics for the sisters.

In their statement Aiken explained their reasoning for the decision: "It is our considered view that the provision of a signing facility is not appropriate for this kind of performance. There is no possibility of the signer beings places on the stage, and any other location would detract from the usual impact of the performance." – Staff Writers
