For only the second time in its history all three of Palace Sports and Entertainment's (PS&E) Michigan venues will host a weekend of triple event days–nine events over the three day weekend. Nearly 2,400 workers will be on with a rare triple-triple featuring three events taking place at The Palace, DTE Energy Music Theatre and Meadow Brook Music Festival all three days of the weekend of July 25 – 27:
Friday, July 25:
— OZZFEST (the second of two nights of the festival) at DTE Energy Music Theatre;
— Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera at The Palace;
— Detroit Symphony Orchestra, "Great Gershwin," at Meadow Brook Music Festival.
Saturday, July 26:
— Chicago at DTE Energy Music Theatre;
— The Jim Rome World Tour at The Palace;
— Detroit Symphony Orchestra, "Great Gershwin," at Meadow Brook Music Festival.
Sunday, July 27:
— Allman Brothers Band at DTE Energy Music Theatre;
— Detroit Shock vs. Washington Mystic at The Palace;
— Detroit Symphony Orchestra, "John Williams Movie Music Adventure," at Meadow Brook Music Festival.
A triple-triple weekend for the PS&E venues is a rarity indeed, happening only once since the organization took over management of Meadow Brook Music Festival in 1994, on the weekend of June 26-30, 2002.
"A triple-event weekend is what our organization is all about: providing a variety of entertainment when people can best enjoy it, especially during a Michigan July weekend," said Tom Wilson, president and CEO of PS&E. "Preparing for events at all three of our venues is a monumental task for our event department heads and their managers to do for one day, much less for an entire weekend, but they are prepared for such situations."
Two triple-event days remain on the schedule for 2003:
Saturday, August 2:
— John Mayer/Counting Crows at DTE Energy Music Theatre;
— Detroit Shock vs. Indiana Fever at The Palace;
— Detroit Symphony Orchestra, "Meadow Brook Fantasia" at Meadow Brook Music Festival.
Sunday, August 10:
— The Beach Boys at DTE Energy Music Theatre;
— Detroit Shock vs. New York Liberty at The Palace;
— Detroit Symphony Orchestra, "The Broadway Concert: He Said, She Said" at Meadow Brook Music Festival.–edited by Bob Grossweiner and Jane Cohen
