Robbie Williams To Open BBC Electric Proms

LONDON (VIP NEWS) — Robbie Williams will open the BBC Electric Proms event at London's Roundhouse on Oct. 20.

Williams will be accompanied by a string section, horn section and full band as he performs songs from his back catalog and comeback album "Reality Killed The Video Star", released Nov. 9.

Producer Trevor Horn will oversee the performance as musical director. The set will be broadcast on national top 40 station BBC Radio 1.

"I'm looking forward to playing my new songs, working with Trevor Horn again and seeing how people react to what I've been doing," said Williams in a statement.

Dame Shirley Bassey will also perform at the Roundhouse, alongside the BBC Concert Orchestra on Oct. 23 for her only scheduled live show this year, ahead of the Nov. 9 release of "The Performance" (Geffen). The show will be broadcast on national AC network Radio 2.

"It is a pleasure to announce two enormously influential figures in U.K. music for this year's BBC Electric Proms," said festival director Lorna Clarke in a statement. "We are delighted to be celebrating Dame Shirley Bassey's 50 years in the business and I cannot think of a better opening artist for this year's event than Robbie Williams."

The BBC Electric Proms, now in its fourth year, is dedicated to creating "new moments in music" including one-off collaborations and performances of new material. All performances will be available online and headline shows will be filmed in High Definition and highlights will be broadcast on BBC Two and simulcast on the HD Channel.

The event runs Oct. 20-24 and previously announced acts include Smokey Robinson, Doves and Dizzee Rascal.

The BBC is the promoter for the event and Metropolis Music are production partners.

Previous performances at the Electric Proms include Paul McCartney, Burt Bacharach, Oasis and the Who. –According to Billboard
