Robbie Williams, Winehouse, Arctic Monkeys On Novello Shortlist

LONDON (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Robbie Williams' flop single "Rudebox" has been nominated for a prestigious Ivor Novello Award.

The track which was widely panned by critics is up for hit of the year at the British ceremony.

The troubled star – who recently spent time in rehab for a prescription drug addiction – is up against Madonna's "Sorry," and Scissor Sisters' smash hit "I Don't Feel Like Dancin.'"

Despite only topping the charts in Germany and Switzerland, judges decided Robbie's single was still successful enough to be shortlisted.

Songs by Amy Winehouse and the Arctic Monkeys have been nominated for songwriting.

In the Best Contemporary Song category, soul singer Winehouse ('Rehab') is up against Hot Chip's 'Over and Over' and Bodyrox Ft Luciana's 'Yeah Yeah'.

Arctic Monkeys' 'When The Sun Goes Down' is up for Best Song Musically and Lyrically, alongside Nerina Pallot ('Sophia') and Scott Matthews ('Elusive').

The International Hit of the Year category is between Scissor Sisters ('I Don't Feel Like Dancin'), Robbie Williams ('Rudebox') and Madonna ('Sorry').

Both Madonna and Scissor Sisters are also shortlisted for the same songs in the Most Performed Work category, as well as 'Put Your Records On' by Corinne Bailey Rae.

An awards spokesman said: "The nominations are based on statistical data and the award is for the song by a British writer that has sold the most around the world."

Arctic Monkeys songwriter Alex Turner is up for best song musically and lyrically, for the group's hit "When The Sun Goes Down."

British soul singer Amy Winehouse has been put forward for best contemporary song for "Rehab."

Her nomination follows her BRIT Awards success in February when she was named best British Female.

Madonna and Scissor Sisters lead the way in the nominations with two each.

The 52nd Ivor Novello Awards will take place in London on 24 May.
