(CelebrityAccess News Service) – Tenor saxophonist Frank Lowe died on September 19 in St. Clare's hospital in New York at age 60. He had been suffering from lung cancer.
Lowe played with Alice Coltrane, Rashied Ali, Sun Ra, Don Cherry, Joseph Jarman, Billy Bang, Joe McPhee, James Carter and many others over the years. His group Saxemble contained four saxophonists. Lowe played many types of music, including avant garde in San Francisco, R&B in Memphis on many Stax sessions and free jazz in New York. –Bob Grossweiner and Jane Cohen
