Scores Hurt At South Africa Concert In Berlin

BERLIN, Germany (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Popular South African singer Johnny Clegg was performing at a World Cup festival in Berlin on Sunday when a car crashed into spectators and came to rest just metres from the stage.

Clegg, Sibongile Khumalo and popular Cape Town band Freshly Ground were in Germany to take part in the handing over ceremony of the 2010 Soccer World Cup. The immediate fear after the car ploughed into the crowd, was that it was a terrorist attack.

Amid scenes of panic police arrested a 33-year-old driver and his 55-year-old passenger.

A child was critically injured in the incident. Many other people were also hurt, some of whom were taken to hospital.

It is still uncertain how the driver managed to get through the security checks before crashing into the spectators. Police have not determined a motive for the incident, but authorities said it appeared to be a stunt by a "mad man".
