Shambhala Music Festival Threatened By Encroaching Wildfire

SALMO, BC (CelebrityAccess) — Attendees of this weekend’s EDM-focused Shambhala Music Festival were warned that an evacuation might be possible, due to a wildfire raging in the vicinity.

A bulletin issued by festival organizers on Thursday night said: "In the interest of public safety, we would like to inform our guests and the public, that there is an evacuation alert near the festival grounds due to a forest fire in the region. We are currently communicating with local government to stay ahead of the situation."

The fire in question, the 185-acre McCormick Creek fire is currently listed as a 'fire of note' and is burning about 20 miles south of Salmo, the town where the festival is located.

While the alert does not require evacuation of the festival, it does call for people in the area of concern to be ready to evacuate at a moment's notice if the fire continues to expand.

Shambhala is one of the province's largest and longest-running music festivals, and the largest EDM festival in Canada. This year, the event runs from August 11 – August 14th with about 17,000 people expected to attend.
