Shooting At Fort Myers Street Festival Leaves One Dead


FORT MYERS, Fla. — Police said a shooting at Zombiecon, an open-air street festival in Ft. Myers left one person dead and five injured.

According to the Associated Press, the shooting occured around 11:45 p.m. Saturday, just 15 minutes before the event officially ended, sending crowds of zombie-dressed revelers fleeing in what was described as a chaotic scene.

The fatality, Expavious Tyrell Taylor, a 20-year-old who played football at a local junior college, died at the scene, while four others were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A fifth individual refused medical treatment at the scene.

Police said that the supsect or suspects were still at large and are hoping that a lead might develop from numerous videos and photos taken around the time of the incident. The suspect was described as a white or possibly Hispanic” male in his late teens or early twenties, dressed in a black T-shirt and a flat-billed black and red baseball cap, police said.

"There were a lot of witnesses down here, there were a lot of people taking pictures, videos with their cellphone," Fort Myers Police Lt. Victor Medico told the Fort Myers News-Press. "Anything that could help with this investigation would be greatly appreciated." – Staff Writers
