Sioux Falls Moves Forward With Preliminary Exploration Of Events Center

SOUIX FALLS (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The Sioux Falls city council has voted to approve a 2011 budget that includes $500,000 apportionment to develop plans new events center in the city.

According to local NBC affiliate KDLT, the money budgeted will be used to retain consultants to work with local professionals in researching where to locate such a facility and what size of a facility the city can accommodate.

"And that's why you needed that half a million dollars to reach out to the experts and give us true numbers. Not speculation. Not guessing, but real, real number," said Sioux Falls Mayor Huether.

The budget apportionment was not without detractors. City councilor Vernon Brown argued that the city was effectively signing away $500,000 without any real oversight.

"I think we need to figure out first, "Can the private sector really step up to the plate and meet the goals that have been set before we do the drawings, but I didn't win that argument, I understand that and we'll move forward," Councilman Vernon Brown told KLDT. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
