LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Los Angeles Recreation and Parks officials announced on Monday that they were recommending that Pennsylvania-based event management company SMG be given the contract to manage the Greek Theatre as an open venue.
Last September, Recreation and Parks officials nominated Live Nation to manage and promote shows at the outdoor venue, but a campaign by longtime venue operator Nederlander and their partners AEG derailed the nomination with the City Council voting instead to self-manage the venue.
Bids were solicited with SMG and Spectra casting their hats into the ring with proposals to manage the historic venue, however the contract would stipulate that the company chosen to manage the venue would not be able to promote shows there.
According to MyNewsLA, Recreation and Parks Commission recommended that the city take up a contract with SMG, for a a one-year term with two opportunities to extend the term another year. The deal would also not let SMG promote shows at the venue. – Staff Writers
