NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — Industry veteran Sonya Askew has been appointed to the post of Senior Director, Commerce at Def Jam Recordings.
Ms. Askew will oversee the label's retail commercial efforts and the company's "aggressive" expansion of their direct to consumer programs, as well as the exploitation of Def Jam's catalog.
Prior to joining the Def Jam team, Askew did a five-year stint as Senior Buyer, Urban Music for ANconnect, the exclusive buying consultant for Best Buy and Walmart.
She began her career in 1995, specializing in the Urban genre as Music Buyer at entertainment specialty retailer Camelot in Ohio. After four years, she moved to Minnesota's Musicland chain as National Buyer, continuing her focus on urban music.
In 2006, she joined Albany-based Trans World Entertainment, the company behind the retail chain FYE.
