Over the past 10 years, Bruce Springsteen has helped low income New Jersey homeowners buy windows for their homes. He has spent a very quiet $1,032,218, according to Court TV's The Smoking Gun web site.
The explosive web site found the information from IRS tax records. In 2000, for example, the site found that he made grants to 16 New Jersey families for $119,728.
Word has spread throughout the Garden State that grants might be available. A Long Branch woman reportedly applied for a grant and received $10,000 for new windows and siding. She told the web site she was unaware of the grant's source until a contractor slipped up. The requests are handled out of the Long Branch home of Jim McDuffie, one of the Boss' associates.
