(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) —
Jonathan Sternberg has been appointed senior vice president & European counsel, Sony BMG Music Entertainment. Sternberg, based in London, reports to Lisa Weiss, SVP, general counsel & secretary, Sony BMG Music Entertainment.

In his new role Sternberg will be responsible for legal, regulatory and industry issues of a pan-European nature, including industry-related rights negotiations and legislative issues.

"His knowledge of issues relating to the European market, together with his extensive contacts within the music industry, make him the ideal choice to represent the company on a variety of issues," said Weiss.

Most recently Sternberg served as SVP & European counsel, Sony Music Entertainment since 1997. He joined CBS U.K. in January 1985 as legal manager. In 1987, he was promoted to senior legal manager, and became director, Legal Affairs shortly thereafter. In 1991 he was named director, Legal, Corporate & Business Affairs and was appointed senior counsel, U.K. and Europe, in 1994. In 1996, he was named VP & senior counsel of Sony Music Entertainment U.K. Prior to joining Sony Music Entertainment, Sternberg was a partner in the London-based law firm of Rayner De Wolfe.

Sternberg has been a board director of both Phonographic Performance Limited and Video Performance Limited. He is also a member of the BPI and IFPI Rights Committees, the former of which he chaired in 1992. –Bob Grossweiner and Jane Cohen
