Steve Martin To APA

NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Veteran music agent Steve Martin has signed on with APA as executive VP of worldwide music.

In his new position at APA, Mr. Martin will work to expand APA's concert operation both in the U.S. and abroad, reporting to APA president/CEO Jim Gosnell. He will be based in APA's New York office.

"Contrary to recent reports of my retirement, or sitting on a beach indefinitely, after contemplating a few wonderful options I’ve decided to go into the next chapter of my career working at one of the best full-service agencies in the world… APA," Martin said in a statement. "To have a full box of crayons to service the clients is going to be a new and exciting opportunity. Jim Gosnell sealed the deal by promising me Louis CK tickets and the new Lee Child book."

Before joining APA, Martin served as The Agency Group's president of operations in North America and was a member of the company Senior Global Management Team. Martin joined TAG in 1994, helping to launch the company's New York office. While at The Agency Group, Mr. Martin repped a personal roster with more than 60 artists, including David Gilmour, Dolly Parton, Brian Wilson, Bob Geldoff, Billy Bragg, Bruce Cockburn and The Scorpions.

Prior to joining TAG, Mr. Martin operated his own firm, the Music Business Agency, which he sold to William Morris in 1989, spending 5 years at WMA as an agent.

Martin got his start in the industry as a concert promoter in the northeastern U.S., producing shows for artists such as Dire Straits and Tom Waits.

“I am beyond thrilled to have one of the most respected and accomplished industry mavericks join our firm,” Gosnell said in a press release. “Steve has played an integral role in countless success stories. His distinguished career as a leader in the music business speaks for itself, and I sincerely look forward to our future accomplishments together.” – Staff Writers
