Abigroup, owners of the SuperDome lease, was purchased earlier this year by German construction company Belfinger Berger. The new owners’ decision to divest assets that are not core business, led to the decision to put the lease of the former Olympic venue up for sale on the international market.
However, the venue’s management company (Sydney SuperDome Pty Limited) and catering company (Events Management Catering Pty Limited) will not be affected and will continue to operate under the directions of the receivers, Martin Brown and Greg Hall of Pricewaterhouse Coopers.
The SuperDome has numerous functions, dinners, conferences and performances booked well into 2005,” said Brown.
“We have very strong bookings and the SuperDome is clearly a popular venue. All tickets purchased and those that will be purchased in the future are valid and shows will go on unaffected, so the public can still enjoy some fantastic events.”
Upcoming events through December 2004 include three sold out shows by The Eagles, and two by Andrea Bocelli, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and WWE Wrestling, and the ARIA Awards.– Jane Cohen and Bob Grossweiner
