Toronto, ON (CelebrityAccess) — The nominees for the 2016 Juno Awards were announced by The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) with homegrown heroes The Weeknd, Justin Bieber and Drake leading the pack.
The Weeknd earned six nods, including Juno Fan Choice, Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and R&B/Soul Recording of the Year.
Both Beiber and Drake were hot on his heels with five nominations each, including Juno Fan Choice, Single of the Year, Artist of the Year and Album of the Year. Drake was recognized with a nomination for Rap Recording of the Year and Bieber earned a nod for Pop Album of the Year.
Vying for four categories each, Alessia Cara was nominated for Juno Fan Choice, Single of the Year, Breakthrough Artist of the Year and R&B/Soul Recording of the Year; while Shawn Mendes was nominated for Juno Fan Choice, Album of the Year, Artist for the Year and Pop Album of the Year.
Veteran Canadian singer-songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie was nominated for Songwriter of the Year, Aboriginal Album of the Year, Contemporary Roots Album of the Year.
The awards ceremony will take place during Juno Week, held in Calgary from March 28 – April 3, 2016.
