Tillan Promoted To SVP MTV Networks Latin America

(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) —

MTV Networks Latin America continues to fine-tune its operation and expands its Music and Talent Department to further support its brands’ music and talent needs across all divisions and lines of business for MTV, VH1 and Nickelodeon. Jose Tillan will continue to lead MTVN Latin America’s music initiatives with his promotion to senior vice president of Music and Talent in charge of the music strategy for all three brands. Julio Muniz will relocate from the MTVN Mexico office as senior director of Music and Talent overseeing Latin musical talent and content; Marc Zimet joins the company as senior director of Music and Talent in charge of international musical talent and content. Both positions will report to Tillan and support the entire region.

“This move further ensures that music will be at the core of everything we do both on and off the air,” said Charlie Singer, executive vice president, Programming and Creative Strategy, MTV Networks Latin America. “It allows us to have more time and flexibility to develop new and interesting ways to present music to our audience and to creatively integrate music into other areas of our business and onto other platforms.”

Tillan will be responsible for leading and developing the music strategy for all three brands, providing vision and direction to further develop the way MTVN Latin America presents music and music content to its respective audiences, including the development of original long-form programming. He will work closely with MTVN Latin America’s programming, production, marketing, sales and digital media groups, as well as the labels and artists to ensure the company’s creative and business needs are met.

“The new structure of the Music and Talent department will maintain MTVs role as the music authority in the region, while at the same time allow us to explore and grow new areas of the business in both traditional and emerging platforms,” Tillan explained. “I look forward to continuing to develop musical content on and off the air and to work closely with artists in creating exciting and unique opportunities.”

Tillan has been instrumental in shaping MTVN Latin America’s overall music policy as well as creating landmark franchises for MTV Latin America. He spearheaded MTV’s multi-award winning “Unplugged” series, which delivered oold and Ppatinum sales for Mana, Alejandro Sanz, Diego Torres, La Ley and Shakira. Most of these releases have received both Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations and awards. Through his efforts the MTV Latin America’s “Unplugged” franchise has achieved global sales in excess of 10 million units.

Since the MTV Video Music Awards Latin America’s (VMALA’s) inauguration in 2002, Tillan is credited with developing numerous musical moments for the show by bringing unlikely talent together for performances by both Latin and international superstars. He has also been responsible for securing all the shows’ musical talent and has served as the shows’ co-producer.

Tillan’s efforts have also been essential in delivering top talent for local versions of some of MTV’s most popular shows including “Making the Video,” “Fanatic” and “Diary.”

Muniz will relocate to Miami in charge of managing Latin musical talent and content across the region. He will focus on developing pan regional music strategies, including the development of original programming for MTV, VH1 and Nickelodeon. He will also be responsible for developing opportunities for strategic partnerships with record labels to commercialize the music content of all networks. Previously, he served as the main liaison between MTVN and the entertainment industry in Mexico responsible for all talent needs and music programming for both MTV and VH1. He was responsible in the musical content development for tentpole events such as Fashionista!, Making of the Video and Making of the Record.

Prior to joining MTV Networks Latin America, Muñiz was director of A&R for Virgin Mexico signing and developing its local repertoire. Muñiz brings 12 years of experience to the channel through his work with radio, television and music.

Zimet joins MTVN Latin America in charge of all international music talent and content for all three brands in the region. In this role, Zimet will serve as liaison between MTVN Latin America and international record labels to develop and implement music content strategies for MTV, VH1 and Nickelodeon in Latin America. In addition, he will be responsible for initiating new business models to further MTVNLA’s on and off-air initiatives including digital distribution, mobile and merchandising.

Previously, Zimet served as vice president of Video Promotion for Arista Records in New York working with Whitney Houston, Carlos Santana, Sarah McLachlan, Prince, Diddy, Outkast and Usher, among others. In this role, the 11 year Arista veteran headed up all of the label's video promotion efforts. Working closely with MTV and VH1 in the US, he developed campaigns and managed the appearances of Arista artists on the networks. Zimet worked closely with MTV Networks’ music & talent department on video play and talent event coordination for shows, including the “MTV Video Music Awards,” “MTV Movie Awards,” “Total Request Live,” “VH1 Divas” and “VH1 Fashion Awards.” –Bob Grossweiner and Jane Cohen
