Tipitina's Co- Founder Dead At 55

(CelebrityAccess News Service) – Elliot Snellings, one of the founders of New Orleans' best known club Tipitina's, died on July 20 in Houston after battling kidney cancer for more than 10 years. He was 55 years old.

Snellings, who was also a lawyer and a photographer with many gallery shows, co-founded Tipitina's as a member of Tipitina's Social Aid and Pleasure Club, in the 1970's. Located at Tchoupitoulas Street and Napoleon Avenue, it was the best known club in the Big Easy until the House of Blues opened in the past decade. The Neville Brothers used to call Tipitina's home and recorded a live album there. It was also the favorite club of Professor Longhair. – edited by Bob Grossweiner and Jane Cohen
