MINNEAPOLIS (CelebrityAccess) — Calgary-based post punk group Viet Cong is facing protests seeking to pressure the band into changing their name.
According to Exclaim.ca, a collection of community groups led by the Vietnamese Student Association of Minnesota is planning to stage a "peaceful protest" at the band's Sept. 24th concert in Minneapolis.
"This protest is a call for First Ave/7th Street Entry to CANCEL the show and for Viet Cong to change their name NOW!" the group said in a pot on their Facebook page.
The planned protest isn't the first either. A protest both outside of, and during the Polaris Music Prize also pressured the band to change their name.
The group has already conceded the point and said that they plan to find a new name in time for their next album.
"We rushed into our last band name decision, we don't plan to rush into this one, but know that will be rolling out a new name as soon as we agree upon one," the band wrote in an open letter. – Staff Writers
