Wavy Gravy To Host Benefit At The Beacon

NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — '60s cultural icon Wavy Gravy is slated to host a benefit at New York's Beacon Theatre with a lineup that includes Jackson Browne, Ani DiFranco, Steve Earle, Allison Moorer, Bruce Hornsby, Dr. John, Jorma Kaukonen, Steve Kimock, Buffy Sainte-Marie and surprise guests.

Gravy, AKA Hugh Romney, was the emcee of the original Woodstock festval and is a well-know entertainer and humanitarian activist. Legend has it that his nomme du guerre was originally bequeathed upon him by blues icon B.B. King at the Texas International Pop Festival in 1969. Romney, who's early career was managed by Lenny Bruce, has opened for performers such as Thelonious Monk and once provided refuge for Ken Kesey's Merry Pranksters after their bus was hijacked.

The concert will benefit the Seva Foundation, a nonprofit Wavy Gravy, Ram Dass, Larry Brilliant and a group of renowned public health experts. Seva works in some of the most impoverished regions of the world, providing financial and technical expertise that help communities build sustainable solutions to poverty and disease. Seva-supported programs have restored sight to more than 3 million people in Asia and Africa. In the U.S. Seva works with Native American communities on the prevention of diabetes and other chronic health issues. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
