LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) Peggy Lipton, 72, known for her roles on “The Mod Squad” and “Twin Peaks,” has died from cancer in Los Angeles.
The death of Lipton, the former wife of music producer Quincy Jones, was announced Saturday by daughters Kidada and Rashida Jones, the latter known for her role in the television show “The Office.”
“She made her journey peacefully with her daughters and nieces by her side,” the daughters said in a statement, according to the Los Angeles Times. “We feel so lucky for every moment we spent with her.”
Lipton was born in New York and began modeling at age 15. She began appearing on shows like “Bewitched” and “The Magical World of Disney” before landing the part of Julie Barnes on “The Mod Squad” in 1968. The police drama was known as one of the first shows on television to recognize the counter-culture of the time.
Lipton later became somewhat of a trailblazer with her interracial marriage to Jones.
“I never saw myself as trend-setting,” Lipton told the Times in 1993. “We were always working. Fame really drove me into my house. I was very paranoid. I didn’t like going out. I had no idea how to be comfortable with the press. I was very young. It was really hard for me.”
