HONG KONG (CelebrityAccess) — Scottish synth-pop group Chvrches announced they have pulled out of a planned show in Hong Kong in the face of continued pro-democracy protests in the city.
The concert, which was to take place on August 20th at AsiaWorld-Expo Runway 11 has been canceled, with organizers citing “unforeseen circumstances.”
“Awake Limited would like to express our most sincere apologies to all disappointed ticketholders and fans of CHVRCHΞS, and also our appreciation for your continuous support. We truthfully apologize for the inconvenience caused and hope to bring the band to Hong Kong again in the near future.”
Chvrches are touring in Asia in support of their latest album “Love is Dead.” The Asian segment of their tour will now wrap at Summer Sonic in Tokyo on August 18th.
The City of Hong Kong, which is nominally a part of China, has been wracked by pro-Democracy protests since June with protestors currently occupying Hong Kong Airport. According to a report by Bloomberg, an anonymous White House official said that Chinese military forces are massing near the border for a possible crackdown.
