LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Universal topped the weekend box office with the animated family-oriented “Abominable” which bowed to a $20.85 million North American opening according to estimates compiled by Comscore.
The film, which features the voices of Sarah Paulson, Chloe Bennet, Albert Tsai, Eddie Izzard, Tsai Chin, Michelle Wong, Tenzing Norgay Trainor opened internationally in 30 territories, adding $8.8 million for a global cume to date of $30.5 million.
Focus Features’ adaption of the television hit “Downton Abbey” slid to second place, earning $14.5 million during its second week in North American theatres, and $10m internationally for a global cume of $107.1M.
Coming in at third place was STX’s “Hustlers” which added $11.47m in North America and d $3 million this weekend from international markets for an estimated box office take of $95.4M worldwide, to date.
