Baltimore Considers Arena Options

BALTIMORE (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Baltimore is currently considering several plans for a new facility to replace the ageing 1st Mariner Arena and rest assured, AEG is in on the action.

AEG, in partnership with Pinnacle Properties and Garfield Traub Development, is one of seven groups that have submitted proposals to The Baltimore Development Corp. to replace the current 45-year-old sports complex.

According to the Baltimore Sun, their plan calls for the new arena to be built across from the M&T Bank Stadium. In addition to the arena itself, the development would include clubs, restaurants, retail stores and residential units.

There's the snafu however. The Sun reports that the plans would require Mariner to be shut down during the construction, forcing the Baltimore Blast soccer team to relocate and some have voiced concern that it would force Baltimore to be dropped from tour itineraries.

"I think it would be the most foolish thing you could ever do – to build it here," Frank Remesch, GM of the 1st Mariner.

A committee of city elders and experts formed at the behest of the Baltimore Development Corp are considering the proposals. A recommendation by the committee is expected by spring of '08. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
