(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The fate of the New Haven Coliseum, which was slated for demolition more than two years ago, is back up for debate in the city.
The New Haven, CT, building was the host to concerts, sporting events, and even circuses during its 30 year career. The city shut down the venue in 2002 after a decade of losing money.
The building was originally marked for demolition, in order to create several smaller projects in its place. Residents of the area have protested, claiming that it’s too much a part of the city history. Plans for a new arena and ground-level shops have kept the city from razing the property, but city officials don’t see much hope for the coliseum’s future. Competition from Bridgeport’s Arena At Harbor Yard, Hartford’s Meadows Music Theater, and the two state casinos seems too much for the smaller coliseum to handle.
A public hearing is set for this coming Wednesday, with a final vote for the property’s future coming in two weeks. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
