BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA (CelebrityAccess) — A decision in April by government officials in Buenos Aires to ban electronic music dance festivals has forced promoters to cancel a previously scheduled Kraftwerk concert.
Officials made the decision to block future EDM events after five people died of drug overdoses following the Time Warp music festival. At the time, the city's mayor Horacio Rodriguez said the ban would be a temporary measure until a law could be crafted to deter drug use at such events, however, no progress has been made in the intervening period.
Unfortunately, for Kraftwerk fans, the devil is in the details and the ban appears to have included their show as the wording of the ban included events where "synthesizers and samplers" were primary instruments.
Promoter Move Concerts argued that the concert would not be like an EDM festival as it would be alcohol-free, open to all ages and only last for two hours, but their pleas fell on deaf ears.
According to Exclaim, Move Concerts said they had already sold 70% of the available tickets for the show, which was slated to take place on Nov. 23rd at Luna Park. They are presently considering their options, including a move, Consequence of Sound said. – Staff Writers
