CATHEDRAL CITY, CA (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Former Iggy Pop drummer Alex Kirst was killed by a hit-and-run driver near the Date Palm Country Club in Cathedral City on Thursday night. Police found Kirst's body at approximately 11:45 PM, after recieving an anonymous tip from a motorist that an individual was laying along the side of the road.
According to the Desert Sun, police are seeking the driver of a vehicle that witnesses described as a white or light-colored Chevy Tahoe or GMC Yukon, a model between the years 2000 and 2006. Police reports said that there was no indication at the scene of attempted breaking or that the driver stopped after the collision.
Kirst was reportedly heading to the store to purchase cigarettes, media reports said. Kirst was best known for his work as a drummer and composer who toured with Iggy Pop but he was also a member of the alt-rock band The Nymphs, fronted by Inger Lorre and known for their wild stage shows.
