LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Former record industry veteran and manager Skip Miller has died in Los Angeles at the age of 62 following a heart attack on September 4th.
Miller, a Vietnam veteran, joined Motown Records in 1971 after a stint in and rose quickly through the ranks to a variety of management rolls in marketing and A&R.
In 1988, Miller went to RCA Records to take the position of their newly-minuted senior vice president of black, jazz and progressive music. Under Miller's guidance, RCA expanded both their hip-hop and jazz catalog.
Among the artists Miller signed during his tenure were the R&B-pop trio Sisters With Voices. He was also a key figure in the careers of artists such as Rick James, DeBarge and the Commodores.
In addition to his work in the record industry, Miller also managed Lionel Richie's solo career for six years, starting in 1998. In 2004, Miller founded Panda Management, a company he ran until his passing.
Miller is survived by his wife, two sons, two brothers and his mother, the L.A. Times said. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
