The event, which takes place over the weekend of June 28-30, has sold its allocation of 100,000 weekend tickets. The remaining 40,000 tickets will be used up by guests, and people working at the event.
This year organizers are working harder than ever before to ensure that people don't gain entry to the event without a valid ticket, following problems with the event in 2000.
In 2001, the festival didn't take place while officials looked at ways to combat the problem of people jumping the perimeter fence. This year £1 million is being spent on a 'superfence' to combat jumpers.
Michael Eavis commented: "We are really pleased people have got the message that the festival's future was in jeopardy – and have responded so quickly by buying their tickets. The overwhelming demand for tickets, despite no details of the line-up being announced, is a tribute to the unique nature of the Glastonbury Festival, which was sorely missed last year. I'm delighted that everyone has responded so positively."
This year's festival will see appearances from The Charlatans, Orbital, Elbow, Mis-Teeq, Ian Brown, Belle And Sebastian, The Beta Band, Super Furry Animals and Coldplay.
