NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — After almost two decades, Comedy Central announced that comedian Jon Stewart will be retiring from late night talk show The Daily Show.
In an annoucement about the change posted on Comedy Central's Twitter, the network praised Stewart.
"His comedic brilliance is second to none," said Michele Ganeless in a statement paying tribute to Stewart's nearly two decades of service .
"He is a comic genius, generous with his time and talent, and will always be a part of the Comedy Central family."
The post said Stewart will remain at the helm of the show until later in 2015 but did not elaborate on the future of the show, or who might replace Stewart at the show's host.
Stewart first stepped into the role of host for the show in 1999, taking over for Craig Kilborn. – Staff Writers
