Kemosabe Records Blocks Kesha From Performing At Billboard Music Awards

NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — Despite rumors to the contrary, singer Kesha will not be performing at the Billboard Music Awards on May 22nd, after Dr. Luke's record label, Kemosabe Records put a kibosh on the show.

According to Billboard, a statement released by the show's producer dick clark productions said: "Kesha accepted an invitation to perform on the show and she received written approval from Dr. Luke's record label, Kemosabe Records. Kemosabe subsequently rescinded its approval following a media report on Wednesday May 11 regarding Kesha’s appearance on the BBMAs. Unfortunately, Kesha and Kemosabe have since been unable to come to an agreement for Kesha to perform on the show."

No other details on the disagreement were provided, but Billboard said they reached out to reps for further comment.

Kesha, who is seeking to escape from her contract with Kemosabe and their parent, Sony Records, has alleged that her longtime producer Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald had emotionally, physically and sexually abused her after persuading her to move away from her family at the age of 18 to pursue a recording career. Gottwald has denied the rape allegations, citing court proceedings in 2011 in which Kesha testified that the alleged rape never took place. – Staff Writers
