Lollapalooza Pulls In $8 Million

CHICAGO (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The 2006 Lollapalooza festival, held in Chicago’s Grant Park on August 4-6, grossed nearly $8 million in ticket sales, up from a total of about $3 million last year.

In it’s second year as a stationary one-off festival, Lollapalooza also drew more than 166,000 attendees, up from only 60,000 at the 2005 two-day event.

Charles Attal, president of Charles Attal Presents who co-produced the festival with Capital Sports & Entertainment, told Billboard.biz that this year’s event was “very smooth. There were no major incidents, the weather was awesome. It was remarkable.”

Daily attendance totaled 52,000 on the first day, 56,000 on the second, and 59,000 on the third day when headliners Red Hot Chili Peppers closed the festival. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
