Merriweather Post Pavilion Gets Cult Film Director's Video Treatment

(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) —
Promoter Seth Hurwitz, chairman of IMP, has tapped indie cult film director Jeff Krulik (Heavy Metal Parking Lot) to help produce video for Merriweather Post Pavilion’s 2006 season. Krulik’s films will include visual “wall art” comprised of snippets of avant-garde films, specially created Merriweather film shorts and, of course, parking lot interviews with fans. These custom videos will be interspersed with sponsor messaging and the marketing of upcoming shows.

“It’s a thrill to think that my eclectic curatorial efforts will be seen in front of a concert-going crowd,” said Krulik. “And I have great memories of attending Merriweather concerts—Talking Heads, Frank Zappa—over the years. I feel right at home as part of the IMP family.”

IMP has made some major investments in Merriweather’s video production spending more than $250,000 for five state-of–the-art screens inside the pavilion for the audience and eight plasma screens that will feature Krulik’s wall art clips in the artists’ dressing rooms.

“The idea is, like everything we try to do at Merriweather Post, to make the place just a blast to go to," Hurwitz explains. "After walking around the grounds this year and realizing there’s not much more we can do to improve the actual venue, I started thinking content.”

The video will debut at the Honda Civic Tour featuring The Black Eyed Peas on April 22. — Jane Cohen and Bob Grossweiner
