NASHVILLE, TN (CelebrityAccess) — Miranda Lambert has been named as the first recipient of the Academy of Country Music's new Merle Haggard Spirit Award.
The award is intended to recognize a "singer-songwriter and performer whose career reflects the uncompromising integrity and steadfastness of spirit embodied by the late Merle Haggard."
“Merle was an integral part of the Academy’s history, and it was important to us that we honor his legacy. We couldn’t imagine anyone better suited to receive the first ever ACM Merle Haggard Spirit Award than Miranda,” said ACM EVP/Managing Director Tiffany Moon.
Miranda will receive the award at the 10th Annual ACM Honors Awards. The awards will take place on August 30th at Nashville’s Historic Ryman Auditorium and will be broadcast subsequently on Friday, Sept. 9th. ACM Honors is an evening dedicated to recognizing the honorees and off-camera category winners from the Academy of Country Music Awards, including the Special Awards, Studio Recording Awards and Songwriter of the Year Award winners. – Staff Writers
